I Hunt Killers was a very different read for me. I love watching crime shows like CSI, Criminal Minds, etc etc. But I haven't really read many books of this nature. I feel like it's always good to try something different every once in awhile though, and I was glad I gave this book a chance. It's an extremely well written story, I can't say that it's pleasant because it's a pretty gritty story.. But Barry has written a book that is sure to keep your attention.
The characters were pretty basic in my opinion. I didn't really find anything about them that really stood out to me. They were all there for the reasons Barry wanted them to be, it's just one of those books that you can't really form any connections with the characters because it's so gritty and a there are a few characters in this book you would never want to like. There are some good characters in the book though, I guess it's kind of a grey area when it comes to some of them but there were a few characters I really did like though that would be consider the good characters in this book.
The story is really different to me, as I mentioned above. I just haven't read many books like this so I didn't really know what to think, other than my initial thoughts when I had read the description of the book. It is a very gritty book, and there are quite a few graphic scenes/statements throughout the book. But as quite a few people have mentioned in their reviews also, there is some comedy in the book. Which is really weird, considering the subject matter of I Hunt Killers.. It really does work into the story nicely though.
In the end, I felt like this was a great book. Only thing I could really complain about is lack of character depth, but that isn't a huge deal when it comes to this story. I feel like this book would have more of a limited appeal just because it can be quite gritty and gruesome in descriptions and such throughout the story, but if it's something you're skeptical about it's still worth giving a chance. I guess it's all a matter of stepping out of your comfort zone. I always like to say, if written well any story can be great. And Barry did a fantastic job writing this novel. Hope you all will check it out.
Thanks to Little Brown for providing me with a copy of this book for review.

What if the world's worst serial killer...was your dad?
Jasper (Jazz) Dent is a likable teenager. A charmer, one might say.
But he's also the son of the world's most infamous serial killer, and for Dear Old Dad, Take Your Son to Work Day was year-round. Jazz has witnessed crime scenes the way cops wish they could--from the criminal's point of view.
And now bodies are piling up in Lobo's Nod.
In an effort to clear his name, Jazz joins the police in a hunt for a new serial killer. But Jazz has a secret--could he be more like his father than anyone knows?
